My name is Sara and I am so glad you have found your way to my blog and the future website of my future business, Sweetgum Studios.
I am married to an awesome and talented husband with whom I have two young girls and a baby boy on the way. Our kids are the light of our lives and are so much fun. We don’t do much that doesn’t revolve around or at least include them. I love to travel and experience new places, but I have lived in and around Charlotte, NC for my entire life. I love the south, it’s culture and it’s people.
Another love of mine is technology. My degree is economics, but my career thus far has been as a big data analyst. I am always enthusiastic about learning new software and programming languages to enhance my skill set. I am currently tackling Photoshop and Illustrator so I can create repeating pattern designs.
Despite my career choice, I have always had an artistic side. Sewing is my primary hobby. My mother taught me to sew when I was a child and I’ve been making things ever since. I started sewing garments and simple curtains but have recently taken up quilting. I even have a couple of bags on my “to be sewn” list, so I pretty much run the gamut of sewing. I also find myself doing a variety of other arts and crafts projects regularly, mostly for my children.
I am developing a business plan to launch my own boutique fabric company using digital printing technology with an eco-conscious mission by only printing on organic cotton and using low impact dyes. I think that manufacturing fabric will be the perfect combination of my interests, experience, and education.
